Song of the Day (45): Lawyers, Guns and Money – Warren Zevon

Song of the Day (45)- Lawyers, Guns and Money by Warren Zevon

Is there any better opening verse to grab you by the lapels and say, “Listen up, buddy”?

Well, I went home with the waitress

You know the way I always do

Well how was I to know

She was with the Russians, too

It is so much fun and foreshadows some of the recklessness of the 1980s.

Recorded in 1978 in California with Wendy Wachtel playing the guitar lacing under Zevon’s fervent vocals. His friend, Jackson Browne, produced the song.

The Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, imperfect from the original concept, demonstrates its absurdity since Zevon has not been etched on the glass as a member of the Hall of Fame.
