Song of the Day (19): Looking for Lewis and Clark – The Long Ryders

Song of the Day (19) - Looking for Lewis and Clark by The Long Ryders

The world’s on fire and the Long Ryders are running through the flames:

I thought I saw some diplomat hawking secret plans in the park

I thought I saw my President walking in Harlem late after dark

In a world of love where they burn like Nero

You write ’em a check and you then add zeros

In a world of love where they burn like Nero

You write a check and you then add zeros

Looking for Lewis and Clark

Based out of LA in the late 80’s and early 90’s and part of the Paisely Underground (Green on Red, the Dream Syndicate, etc.), the Long Ryders never quite broke through in the U.S., though they attracted a larger following in Europe, particularly the U.K. They broke up, got back together and repeated that cycle.

Lead singer and song writer, Sid Griffin, lives in London now. He also played with the Coal Porters and has written several books including a noteworthy volume on Gram Parsons.
