Lowell George wrote this song while a member of Frank Zappa’s band and it scared people because of tis frankness and mention of the three w’s, “weed, whites and wine.” Writing this song convinced George to leave Zappa’s band and he started his own, Little Feat.
Little Feat recorded the song twice. The first time came out a little up tempo. The second version settles into the languid, gritty, yet vulnerable tale of a trucker making his way across the southwest trying to stay alive, heading for home, heading for love.
Many have recorded a version of this song including Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, and Commander Cody, all good, but nothing like this version from Little Feat.
