Mixing Disney with the Replacements turns out to be a brilliant movie. They took this song and did it up as only the placemats could. A little burlesque, a little chaos, high energy and lots of fun.
The Replacements recorded their cover version of “Cruella de Vil” for “Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films.” Produced by the Hal Willner, the album brought together an eclectic group of performers to reimagine Disney songs that we all knew. Some other tracks include:
- Tom Waits delivering a gritty version of “Heigh Ho”
- Los Lobos performing “I Wanna Be Like You”
- Sun Ra & His Arkestra’s take on “Pink Elephants On Parade”
The Replacements later released their version of Cruella de Vil in 1997 on a compilation album, album “All for Nothing / Nothing for All” in 1997
