Song of the Day (112): Hardley Getting Over It – Hüsker Dü

Song of the Day - Hardley Getting Over It by Hüsker Dü

Another group more influential than famous, this trio from St. Paul, Minnesota began as a hard core punk band with a touch of thrash metal then add more melody nuance as they matured (and perhaps learned to play their instruments). Hüsker Dü broke apart by 1989 without ever hitting the charts, but they had an impact on alt rock bands that followed. Bob Mould, lead guitarist, is still out there crafting music that demands to be heard.

“Hardly Getting Over it” is a later song full of introspection and the angst of dealing with depression and hardship. Underneath the fury of the guitars, is a vulnerability that is almost shocking in its rawness.
