Song of the Day (99): Ramblin Boy – Tom Paxton

Song of the Day (99) - Ramblin Boy by Tom Paxton

Born in Chicago, Tom Paxton grew up in Oklahoma listening to another Okie boy, Woody Guthrie. The Army took Paxton out of the Sooner State and eventually dropped him into the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s.

This is a sweet song of friendship and what it means to be loyal. It makes manifest Woody Guthrie’s sentiments about working men and what matters in this world.

First heard this on a recording from the Newport Folk Festival and it’s stuck with me ever since. Paxton is approaching 90 years and will still sing this for you when he takes the stage.

Sending this to my friend John Flynn, may all your rambin bring you joy.
