Song of the Day (16): Kansas City – Wilbert Harrison

Song of the Day (16) - Kansas City by Wilbert Harrison

Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote this song in 1952 and Little Willie Littlefield first recorded it in 1952. Along the way, Little Richard recorded a great version, but did not release it until much later. Wilbert Harrison made it a hit in 1959. Others to record the song include Fats Domino, the Beatles, James Brown Van Morrison and Willie Nelson.

I’m going to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
They got some crazy
Little women there
And I’m gonna get me one.

I’m gonna be
Standing on the corner
Twelfth Street and Vine
I’ll be standing on the corner
Twelfth Street and Vine
With my Kansas City baby
And a bottle of Kansas City wine

Well, I might take a train
I might take a plane
But if I have to walk
I’m going just the same
I’m going to Kansas City
Kansas City, here I come
