Song of the Day (262): London Calling  – The Clash

Song of the Day (262): - London Calling by The Clash

I first heard the Clash at Clark University in Worcester, Mass back in September 1979. The “London Calling” album had just come out and they were the biggest, baddest band on the planet. The student promoters had booked them into a small hall and then oversold the tickets. The Clash refused to come on until everyone could come inside, a pretty cool move and unusual for a band to stand up for the audience.

And this song? It captures the sense that the world might be blowing apart, the temperatures rising, ice caps melting, nuclear weapons on the move and no leaders to trust, all you can do is sing louder and keep going.
