Song of the Day (267): O-o-h Child – The Five Stairsteps

Song of the Day (267): - O-o-h Child by The Five Stairsteps

My bride had a hankering for this soul classic. Released in 1970 as the B-side to a single (The A side was their version of “Dear Prudence”), fans didn’t care what their record company said, they fell for this song.

Written and produced by Stan Vincent, “O-o-h Child” has a great uplifting spirit. Who doesn’t feel better after listening to this? Everything becomes possible. Love will last forever.

It became the signature song for the Five Stairsteps, the name used by the five siblings of the Burke family, a Chicago based soul group.  This was their only big hit, but don’t call them a one hit wonder, they made too much music and made too great a sound to be cast aside so easily.
