Song of the Day (286): The Devil Went Down to Georgia – Charlie Daniels Band

Song of the Day (286): - The Devil Went Down to Georgia by Charlie Daniels Band

There’s a long tradition of the devil tempting humans with an offer in exchange for their souls. The most famous American music tale is that of Robert Johnson who met the devil at the crossroads and traded his soul for the ability to play the guitar like no one else.

Charlie Daniels wanted to add a fiddle song to his 1979 album, Million Mile Reflections, and came up with this classic. And what fun as the devil challenges Johnny in a fiddle contest and plays like the demon he is. John plays even better and wins the golden fiddle dispatching the devil to the underworld. It is full of lines that will make you smile and music that has you ready to dance.
