Song of the Day (62): Murder in the City – The Avett Brothers

Song of the Day (62)- Murder in the City by The Avett Brothers

I don’t think I could love a song any more than I love this song. It captures the bonds of family love as much as any song or poem I know.

As a son in a family with four children and a father of three sons, the second verse resonates deeply:

I wonder which brother is better

Which one our parents loved the most

I sure did get in lots of trouble

They seemed to let the other go

A tear fell from my father’s eyes

I wondered what my dad would say

He said, “I love you and I’m proud of you both

In so many different ways”

Scott Avett’s singing is so authentic, serving the mission of the song. His acoustic guitar and Seth Avett’s light piano provide just the right accompaniment.

The song will break your heart and make you feel warm all at once.
